Fraxel® Fractional Laser for Stretch Marks: How it Works
Fraxel is a fractional, non-ablative laser that treats a measured portion of the skin at a time, creating thousands of microscopic zones of controlled thermal energy while leaving surrounding tissue intact. This fractional pattern allows treated skin to renew while supporting improvements in the appearance of texture and colour irregularities, including stretch marks (striae).
Why Fraxel for stretch marks?
Targeted action: The microthermal zones are placed through the stretch-mark pattern to encourage gradual surface smoothing and a more uniform appearance over a series of sessions.
Measured downtime: Most people experience temporary redness, warmth and swelling; flaking or bronzing can occur for several days. Downtime varies with settings, area, and individual factors.
Device with clinical use history: Fraxel systems are ARTG-listed medical lasers used in Australia by trained clinicians with appropriate safety protocols.
Adjustable settings: Energy, density and passes can be modified to suit the treatment area, skin type and stage of the stretch mark (newer red/purple vs older white striae).
What to expect
Session plan: Stretch-mark treatment is typically staged over multiple sessions several weeks apart. The number required varies by location, extent and skin response.
Areas commonly treated: Abdomen, hips, thighs and breasts.
Aftercare: Sun protection is essential. You’ll receive guidance on gentle cleansing, emollients and when to resume active skincare.
Risks & considerations: Temporary redness, swelling, tenderness and bronzing are common; less common risks include pigment change, prolonged redness, acne-like breakouts, and very rarely scarring or infection. Individual results vary.
